Propriano is the main city of the Valinco Gulf in South Corsica.
Between Campomoro and Porto Pollo, the region is very popular for the wild beauty of its beaches and the authentic side of vacation on this coast. The proximity of Sartène and Alta Rocca gives the Propriano region an extremely rich hinterland, cradle of Corsica's history and paradise for outdoor sports.
As often in Corsica, the nearby mountain harbors many valleys and gorges where rivers flow perfect for practicing canyoning.
Valinco Gulf has its jewel, Baracci Canyon.
Located 15 minutes from Propriano it is the ideal site for practicing canyoning in this region.
Of course for those who have already done Baracci descent, other canyons are also easily accessible from Propriano, there is of course Richiusa in the Ajaccio region only 1h30 drive away and also family descent Ese an hour maximum.
For the more motivated, Bavella Massif offers magnificent canyoning descents, Vacca, Purcaraccia and Pulischellu. The start of canyons in Bavella Massif is about 2 hours drive from the Valinco Gulf.
Baracci Canyon represents what the public expects from a canyoning descent. All the ingredients that make up a beautiful canyon descent are gathered. The slides have a unique character, they are perfectly polished and canyoners often wonder if they are natural or the work of a sculptor. Jumps of all sizes will satisfy both the sporty and beginners.
The zip-line passage is the highlight, the moment everyone waits for and dreads.
Nature is exceptional, vegetation is preserved and lush, giving the place a small taste of tropical environment.
This gorge carved in red granite has not finished amazing and delighting canyoning practitioners.
Canyoning practice in the Valinco region is done between April and late October.
One of the major advantages of Baracci Canyon is that it is almost practicable year-round. In spring and autumn, water temperatures are quite cold but thanks to very high quality equipment, practice remains very pleasant. In full summer the water temperature is perfect and the water level sufficient to fully enjoy the descent.
Even if the weather is beautiful on Propriano, it is important to remember that canyoning is a whitewater sport practiced in the mountains. Thus, regardless of the weather at the seaside, you must consider the weather of the mountain massifs to know the conditions to expect during descents. In case of doubt about conditions and weather, the simplest is to contact outdoor sports professionals and ask for their advice.
To practice canyoning in Corsica with certified instructors from Canyon Corse, you must book your participation.
In fact, it will be impossible for you to show up on the day at the start of the route without having previously reserved.
At reservation you will be asked your size and weight so the instructor can prepare your equipment ( see our article on canyoning equipment ). Your instructor will be at the meeting with all your individual equipment, wetsuit, helmet, backpack and canyoning harness.
You can also rent shoes from our agency, again you will need to book them at registration. We strongly recommend renting these shoes, they are shoes specially designed for practice. Canyoning shoes protect the foot and ankle, offer perfect grip and very effective ankle support.
Note that canyoning shoes exist in all sizes from 28 to 48.
Canyoning is an outdoor sport requiring minimal equipment to be practiced safely.
For a supervised practice within the framework of Canyon Corse, the mandatory equipment is provided by us.
As mentioned above, this is a suitable wetsuit, a helmet, a harness and a backpack.
Canyoning consists of descending rivers in their bed, naturally slippery.
It is therefore possible and very strongly recommended to rent canyoning shoes adapted to the practice.
Otherwise, you must bring a pair of closed sneakers.
You must also bring into the supplied backpack what you need to eat and drink ( a bottle of water per person and energy bars).
The price of descent depends on the duration and difficulty level of the canyon chosen.
For Baracci Canyon the price of descent for one person is €45.
This price includes supervision by a state-certified instructor and equipment rental.
Shoe rental is not included in the price because it is optional.
If you wish to rent shoes, the price is €10 per person.
Baracci Canyon course is adapted to all levels of practice including children from age 7.
Of course, children must be accompanied by a responsible parent.
It is somehow the ideal canyon whatever their level of practice, from 7-year-olds to experienced practitioners.
Instructors can adapt the descent to levels and wishes of participants, they propose for each the most suitable passage, rappel or jump, small or large jumps, big slides or easy downhill.....
Other factors that make this descent particularly suitable for children are:
- very pleasant summer water temperature
- very short approach walk
- sunshine of the site
- possibility to avoid all major waterfalls
- possibility to exit the canyon easily.
There are other canyon descents in the Propriano region but none is as well adapted to young children's practice.
